The Lodge
Lengau Lodge is situated in Balule Nature Reserve, entered via Grietjie Private Nature Reserve gate. The Reserve is part of Greater Kruger National Park.
Up till now we have received only marvellous reviews on Trip Advisor.
We have the ambition to provide a true Safari feeling with maximum attention for our guests. That is the reason we have decided to offer only a limited number of beds. We provide facilities for 10 guests.
The Lodge has currently three Rondavels (rooms) for guests
that each accommodate 2, a family room that accommodate 4, a restaurant, a beautiful swimming pool with shaded pool area and a building with a large viewing deck, from which one can look over the bush. The Rooms
The bedrooms are well furnished with solid wood bedside tables, bed frames, fabric upholstered arm chairs, leather luggage racks and built in wardrobes with solid wood shelves. Comfortable beds fitted with cotton linen, mosquito nets, duvets with feathered inners, standard and king size pillows. The rooms have venetian blinds, bedside lamps, room centre lights and wall mounted lights. Ceiling fans and split remote controlled air conditioners are provided for temperature control. All bedrooms have a hair dryer, digital safe and tea/coffee tray. Full length mirrors provided adjacent to the wardrobes.
Facilities
Guests luggage is ferried by staff to room and registration is conducted in the comfort of the lounge. Pre-populated registration and indemnity forms are signed and lodge facilities communicated to guest. There is Wi-fi access at the lodge. Business services are available in the reception office. Laundry service is available daily. Detailed service directories provided in all the bedrooms. The property has TV lounge with bar, swimming pool, deck lounges and braai boma. Comfortable solid wood loungers provided on the pool deck for guest relaxation.
Restaurant
The dining room is furnished with excellent quality dark wood and canvass dining chairs and tables. The deck are also set up for al fresco dining. They are furnished with wicker chairs, canvass and wooden chairs with custom made teak dining tables. The tables are set up with cotton table cloths and napkins, place mats, stainless steel cutlery, wine glasses, white crockery and oil lamps during meals. The property serves tasteful freshly prepared breakfast, light lunches and 3 course set meals for dinner. The meals were well prepared and presented.
In the restaurant building that is called “Hippo” we can provide you with tasteful breakfast and diner. Since the weather conditions are almost always excellent we can serve the meals outside as well as inside.
Viewing deck
On the first floor of the building we have created a very large viewing deck with a thatched roof on top of it. From this place you will have an enormous view over the bush and onto the waterhole. Without disturbing the animals, you will have a close look on them, because the animals usually come very close to the lodge.
The area around the lodge is equipped with a small electrified fence-cable to keep the elephants from coming too close to the buildings and to prevent them from drinking from the swimming pool. All other animals can roam freely throughout the entire plot and the rest of the reserve, all the way into the Kruger National Park. Therefore the lodge is not the best place for small children and we advice to bring only children form the age starting with 12 years.
Infinity swimming pool
The lodge has a magnificent swimming pool with a beautiful Lapa (relax area with seats and tables) shaded by a thatched roof, to relax and cool down from the sometimes hot African sun. You can enjoy your drinks, have a meal or just enjoy the view.

Solar powered
Solar powered, off-grid
Since July 2019 our lodge is equipped with a solar power system. This will enable us to be totally self-supportive where it comes to electricity. During the day the solar system is charging our own large LiFePO4 battery. During the night this should provide us with sufficient capacity to operate completely off-grid and make use of all lights and appliances, including the ceiling fans and even the airconditioning installations that are installed in all the rooms. With this solar power we have no consequences from the dramatic load shedding in South Africa.
but also sustainability and local empowerment
Next to solar, the lodge is also sustainable in other ways. All our furniture is made of waste wood coming from local citrus farms. Next to that we offer fresh and cold water to our guests in reusable bottles (less plastic waste). Our staff exists of local people only and they provide us with local made jewelery as souvenirs for our guests. All income gained via the sale of them is an extra income for our staff and people in their community.
Safari Game Drive
The Grietjie Nature Reserve is a 3000 ha. large reserve and is part of the large Kruger National Park without any fences in between all participating Nature Reserves. Grietjie Reserve has about 100 plots, from which a couple have been equipped with lodging facilities. As visitor it is not allowed to drive around for game spotting. We will offer you the possibility to come with us on a safari game drive twice a day. We have licenses to provide safari game drives in a large part of Kruger National Park in an area of over 9.000 ha. During the safari game drives we will enjoy the daily surprise of all kind of possible animals like, impala, giraffes, buffalo, warthogs, zebra, kudu, waterbock, elephants, hypo’s, lions and many more. Not to forget of course the birds of all kind, colors and sizes!
Wifi and gsm connection
You can of course make use of our internet connection via our free Wifi, which is available at all locations at the Lodge. The connection supports normal use of the internet. E-mail and all social media channels can be used. It depends on the network provider how your cell-phone connection will function, but we do have coverage most of the time for your mobile phone.
